Onychomycosis is caused by three types of fungi, called dermatophytes, yeasts, and nondermatophyte molds. Fungi are simple parasitic plant organisms that do not need sunlight to grow. Toenails are especially susceptible because fungi prefer dark damp places. Swimming pools, locker rooms, and showers typically harbor fungi. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, problems with the circulatory system, or immune deficiency disease are risk factors. (see Blog section for more detailed information)...

Foot orthoses or orthotic devices are specially designed shoe inserts that help support the feet, improve foot posture and correct any imbalances. Orthoses are designed to address the patient’s particular foot problems. The various types of orthoses can include: Functional foot (customised kinetic) orthoses, Prefabricated orthoses, Cushioning orthoses, Pressure relief orthoses and these devices can be customised by a podiatrist. Verruca also known as plantar wart or Verruca pedis is a wart caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) occurring on the sole or toes of the foot. The virus attacks compromised skin through direct contact, entering through possibly tiny cuts and abrasions in the outermost layer of skin. An ingrown toenail develops when the sides of the toenail grow into the surrounding skin. The nail curls and pierces the skin, which becomes red, swollen and tender. The toe can also feel painful when pressure is placed on it. The big toe is most likely to be affected, either on one or on both sides.There are several possible causes of an ingrown toenail, including: incorrectly cut toenails,tight-fitting shoes, socks or tights, excessive sweating (see Blog section for more detailed information)

Athlete's foot is a very common fungus infection between the toes in which the skin becomes itchy and sore, cracking and peeling away. Athlete's foot is caused by a fungal infection that most often affects the fourth and fifth toe webs. the fungi that cause athlete's foot, are unusual in that they live exclusively on dead body tissue (hair, the outer layer of skin, and nails). The fungus grows best in moist, damp, dark places. (see Blog section for more detailed information)

Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of skin that develop when your skin tries to protect itself against friction and pressure. Corns are smaller than calluses and have a hard center surrounded by inflamed skin. Corns tend to develop on parts of your feet that don't bear weight, such as the tops and sides of your toes, though they can also be found in weight-bearing areas. A hallux abducto valgus deformity, commonly called a "Bunion", is a deformity characterized by lateral deviation of the great toe, often erroneously described as an enlargement of bone or tissue around the joint at the head of the big toe.The symptoms of bunions include irritated skin around the bunion, pain when walking, joint redness and pain, and possible shift of the big toe toward the other toes. Heel fissures, also known as cracked heels, occur when the skin on the bottom, outer edge of the heel becomes hard (callus), dry and flaky, sometimes causing deep fissures that can be painful, bleed or get infected .Heel fissures can affect anyone, but risk factors include: Living in a dry climate, Obesity, Consistently walking barefoot, wearing sandals, open-backed shoes or/and Inactive sweat glands.
